What's Editing?

So our plan that we originally had ended up working up. We were able to film the scenes on Wednesday at the mall as well as the apartment. However, we had to make two big changes to the process. The first big change that was made was taking me out of the actual acting of the scenes. We decided that it would be harder to fit me into the music video this far into the project. It mostly had to do with my schedule and how I might be able to film on some days but not others. That meant that if I was in a scene but not able to be back for the next scene, the editing process would be harder. Since the music video is directed around Victoria and Jefferey it wasn't difficult to take me out of the acting process. So what ended up happening on Wednesday was that I was the director of the video as well as actually filming them. It was just easier for me to do that and it moved the project along faster to the point where we were able to finish filming that day. Another change that was made was that instead of using the park to play basketball, we changed it to playing ping pong in the apartment. We did this because by the time our schedule opened up to film it was too dark and for safety reasons we did not want to go film in the cold and in the dark.
Even though we finished the filming on Wednesday we did not finish the editing process today. We got into class to edit and the first thing we had to figure out was how to get the mp3 playing of our song onto the software. That took a while because some of the music that played either wasn't the way we wanted it, or it couldn't be used because it was considered Copywrite. After finding the song the editing process became easier. Our next plan was for Victoria to finish editing in our class period, and because I had study hall the next period, I would come back and edit the rest of the music video. When I asked my teacher if I could stay for the next period, she told that it couldn't happen because her next class needed the computers. Then she came back and stated that we could stay in her 6th-period class however the kids in her class have dibs on the computer so if the computer we were using was taken, we would have to wait until the person was done to use it. I wanted to take the chance so I stayed for the next class, but some group ended up using the computers. Since I was already there I just decided to do work from other classes. Then the teacher came up again and said that because it was due on Monday we could come back in the morning to edit, or during her class 2nd period, or during the lunches.
After talking with my group we decided that it would be best to edit in the morning before classes started as well as during our lunches. Victoria has study hall 2nd period so she said she would check if our computer was going to be available to use during that time. But we knew that it wouldn't be the plan to just go during study hall. We also came up with a backup plan in case our original plan doesn't work. If we don't finish editing tomorrow, we will have to come back on Monday. We would have to edit in the morning before class starts and then once class starts to use as much time to edit the video. Hopefully, we can get it done and finished tomorrow because I don't want to cut the process too close to the deadline. Mostly because if we wait till the last minute and something happens with the computers, we would be stuck in a pickle that day.

Filming blog... not again

My journey in this filming process has been interesting. It has had its up and for the most part downs because of how things happened. So far in this process, I have yet to actually do any filming. This is due to my schedule and a miscommunication. As stated in my previous blogs the plan was for Jeffrey, Emilio, and Victoria to go filming last Wednesday, because I had to work that day, then we were all going to film on Saturday. However, when Saturday came around it looked as if only Jeffrey and I remembered or knew that there was a plan to film that day. Jefferey asked what time we were going to film and Victoria responded saying she was free after 1 on Sunday. Then Jefferey and I asked if we were still filming that day and Victoria didn't remember we were filming. Then on Sunday Victoria suggested that we film but because I thought that we were filming on Saturday I took off Saturday and worked the Sunday. So no filming ended up happening on Saturday or Sunday. Due to this, it puts us back more on our schedule to have the video finished.
Even though I did not get to film I asked each of my group members how the process went to see how the process overall was going and I got some significant feedback. From what I heard the process was difficult. What happened was that Jefferey took a camera from the class without making sure that it was charged up. So when they reach Emilio's apartment the camera was dead. Because the camera takes so long to charge they left it to charge for a little while then they decided to film while the camera was charging. The definitely put a hamper on the different shots, scenes, and movements that we wanted to make but they had to work around the situation. They ended up filming two scenes. One scene was Victoria calling Jefferey while he was playing video games with Emilio. The other scene was when Jeffrey was playing ping pong and Victoria ran up to him to try and talk to him. Since the camera wasn't charged, they weren't' able to get any takes in the mall or the park. However, I think given the circumstances that they were given, the footage that they got was good.
Even though I did not film I still got to see the footage that they took, and from the many shots that they took there were a couple shots that were good.  We want to turn in the video before December 9th. So the new plan is to finish filming on Wednesday and then Edit on Thursday, then go over last looks on the day it's due. In case we are thrown off schedule, we created a backup plan. The plan will be to film on Thursday instead of Wednesday. After that someone will download the editing software on their computer, then we all get together over the weekend to edit and do last looks on the day it's due. Even though we are behind I have faith we will follow our current schedule. As for how this experience has been for me. It is definitely not what I expected. I expected it to be easier because we had the experience with the commercial but when we aren't' in a controlled area in terms of what we do, we have to take ore into consideration the different challenges we now face. I think this is a harder project than the commercial but I am excited for the end product of this project.

Film Blog

Since we can film off of campus it gives us more creative room to make the video come together. We, however, have not started to film yet. Our plan is for Victoria, Jeffrey and Emilio to film at the mall and at Emilio apartment on Tuesday. Then on Sunday, we would all get together to fill the remaining scenes. The plan ended up changing because of our individual schedules. We were all going to meet up in class then film afterschool. I, however, have a volunteering opportunity so I won't be in school. Victoria has a function for her church and Emilio got sick. This means that only Jefferey was going to be at school. Then he told us that he had a shift to cover at his job, so he couldn't film in the afternoon. Because he is the star of the music video, if he can't be there, no film can be taken. So they rescheduled it for Wednesday. I work from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. so I won't be able to film again but I have taken time out for Sunday.
The process so far has been more challenging compared to the commercial project. As I have stated many times, dealing with the individual schedules makes getting the project done much more complicated. Because we filmed in class it wasn't much of a problem because we were always in class. However, I think getting to film off campus is much better because it gives us more room for creativity. Another challenge in this project is working with the amount of time for the video. We were told that the video has to be 1 minute and 15 seconds. This means that our storyboarding is longer, the editing process will be more difficult, and we will need many more takes to capture the video in the way that we want to. At the starting of this project, I stated that I think this project was going to be more fun than the commercial, and I look back at it now and I have changed my opinion.  I did not take into consideration how much more work the music video was going to be, so it was definitely a surprise. I do hope that once we start filming my views will change about this project though.
My role in this project is also bigger than in the last project. For the blogs that had to be the same for everyone, we implemented a system. We would find the information together but each person would take turns writing the blog and then send it to each other. I worked on one blog by myself and one with the group, the conventions blog. Another thing that I did was reach out to the locations to ensure that it was okay to film in that area. We still have a long way to go in this process, but it feels good to know that I am having bigger roles in the project than the last time. I also plan to be the director this time.

Storyboarding blog

Today our group worked on the storyboard for the music video that we will be filming. After countless deliberation, brainstorming, and replaying, we managed to finish our storyboard, laying down the framework for the filming process. For our music video, we decided that we will be doing the song “Kiss Me Through The Phone” by Soulja Boy Tell’Em featuring Sammie. This song was a perfect choice as it lacked profanity and would be easy to recreate with the resources we each have access to. We would detach all audio and let the song tell a story itself. Since we were given a minimum of a minute and five seconds and a maximum of a minute and 15 seconds, our plan was to cut various parts of the song given that it is a total of three minutes long. We chose to use the introduction, a phrase towards the middle of the song, and the ending. From there, we divided the song by increments of five seconds, establishing what exactly would be taking place within the said time frame. We knew that it was essential that the audio not only fell between the specified range but also still flowed together. This would help us avoid any inconveniences that could potentially offset our productivity during the filming and editing processes. Since the goal of this project was not to create an imitation of the original music, the creative juices had no choice, but to be activated. Our vision for the project took a sharp detour in regards to the general direction of the original music video. The overall plot of our music video goes as follows: A young teen’s love at first sight quickly evolves into a mesmeric obsession, resulting in the pursuit of a connection to an oblivious boy by all means necessary. Initially, one of the ideas presented was a love story in which the guy pursued the girl with good intentions and romantic interests. We ultimately decided to stray from the norm and go with a more “stalker story” as it was more original.

Within our storyboard, we divided the music video amongst 15 boxes. The first six take place in the mall. During these scenes, we anticipate there to be bright, white lights as it is a shopping center. There are four actors, all which are members of the group, Autumn, Emilio, Victoria, and Jeffrey. The actors will all be dressed in casual clothing and will be carrying shopping bags. The next 4 take place at a park. Lighting will depend on how the weather is looking that day, though, we intend to film on a sunny day. Emilio and Jeffrey will be dressed in sports apparel, playing basketball, while Victoria and Autumn will be in casual clothing. The final 5 take place in an apartment. During these scenes, Jeffrey and Emilio will be dressed in light clothing such as pajamas. Victoria will once again be dressed in casual clothing. We will likely use dark lighting in order to build the suspense of being stalked. We intend to use jump cuts, inserts, establishing shots, point of view, and various other cinematographic elements in order to not only transition between the scenes (boxes) but also effectively portray our vision. For example, the first box, marked the 0:03 seconds to 0:8 seconds of the actual song, displays a wide shot in which Victoria and Autumn find Jeffrey and Emilio at the mall and Victoria becomes infatuated with Jeffrey. This will jump to the second box, marked 0:8 to
0:13, a close up in which Victoria and Autumn look at each other and notice that Emilio and Jeffrey are gone.

If everything goes as planned, we intend to stick to our story board and end the music video with a minute and fifteen seconds.

Planning Blog

The first day of our planning process was November 18th. The teacher gave us instructions on what to do and we began. The first thing we discussed is what we wanted to do for the music video. We know we didn’t want to follow the normal convention of the music video. The original video shows a couple who is dating and even though they can’t see each other they call and text each other. We decided to change the theme and now instead of it being a couple, a girl has a crush on a guy and she’s delusional thinking that they are together. For this project, things were a little harder because the concept was more complicated than the commercial. The biggest problem for us was figuring out when we were actually going to be able to film. We wanted to start filming this week, but we couldn’t figure out a day when we were all free. Some of us had to work and others had after school activities that conflicted with each other. We talked about our schedule for about 20 minutes before I suggested a solution.  Since not everyone was going to be in all of the scenes, the people who were free a specific day could go filming and film the scenes that they can get, then another day the other people in the group could go filming.
By the time we figured out our individual schedules and the plan it, the class had ended so we got on group call at night to discuss the video in more detail. We discussed the health and safety issues, the props we were going to use, the costumes and the schedule we were going to be following.

Location
To create our vision, we figured that the best place to film would be the mall because the mall is a crowded area where people can easily be followed without being spotted. So when the female is stalking the male interest, he wouldn’t be able to spot her in a crowd. The next location that we chose was someone’s house. In one of our scenes, we have the female looking into the window of the male interest’s house trying to see if he’s home while calling him. A one-story house or an apartment with windows on the first floor would be the perfect place to film the scene. The last location that we chose was the park. The male interest is going to be hanging out with his friend playing basketball and the female and her friend are watching him. Once again when stalking someone, the person stalking normally does it in a crowded area. In the scene, you would see the female fawning over the male interest while he is up and active. An important task we had to do was make sure that we were allowed to film in all of the locations that we chose. Autumn was in charge of getting the approval of the people in charge. At first, she called the Galleria Mall, the mall we wanted to filmstrip.  and the manager stated that it was fine as long as we gained permission to film the people in the mall. The next part was getting the house. Our new member of the group offered to use his house so he asked his mom and she said yes. We figured that since the park was a public area as long as we had permission from the people playing on the court, filming shouldn’t be a problem there.

Health & safety
Because we are filming outside of school campus, we have to make sure that our group, the equipment and everyone around us isn’t put in harm's way. We will have to drive to the locations so everyone in the car will use the seatbelts. Another safety issue is the weather. The weather forecast says there will be days of thunderstorms. To protect ourselves we will stay inside and shoot all of our inside scenes. If we happen to get caught in the rain, we will bring umbrellas to protect the equipment and raincoats to protect us from the rain.

Props
The props we will be using
1.Phones
2.Basketball
3.Shopping bags
4.The room in the house

Costumes
1.Basketball shorts with a t-shirt
2.Jeans and a hoodie
3.Pajamas

Schedule 11/18-12/9
11/18- Discussed the theme of the music video
11/20- Plan the props, location, and costumes
11/22- We are going to storyboard, our video, write the script and figure out the kinks with our individual schedule.
11/26- We begin filming. We will start off at the mall, then make our way to the house to shoot our opening scenes.
11/30- Film the scenes at the park and go back to the mall because we need a shot with all of the actors/actresses in it.
12/2- Begin the editing process, figure out the scenes and takes we want to keep and what we want to get rid of, adding the music, and doing the voiceovers needed
12/4- Double check to make sure that the music video looks put together, add any last-minute details that we might have missed and play it back.
12/06- Turn in the final music video

Music Video Conventions

Last class we wrapped up our commercial project and I have to say it was such a fun experience for me. Iv'e stated how much the filming industry interest me and getting the chance to learn about it and do some actual filming is something that I can check off of my bucket list. The project did have its ups and downs though. For example, working on the storyboard was an easy process because we all had the same idea for what we wanted the commercial to look like. Because the story boarding process went well, it was even easier to film. I believe that the story board let us know the settings we wanted to film in, the type of costumes we wanted to wear, and what specifically was happening in each of the scenes. While those processes went well the editing process did not. We had problems with the editing software in terms of it would not open on the computers. We had to wait at least a week before we could start any editing on the video. Now that we are finished with the project we can move on to the next project which is the music video. With this project I would like to reuse the same strategy we used for the storyboard;and one thing that I would change from the last time is trying to go ahead of the schedule the teacher gave us so that if we run into any technical problems, the project won't be jeopardized. However, I think this project will be favorite of the two because we get to film off campus.
For the music video the song that we decided to do is called"Kiss Me Through The Phone" by Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. The song came out in 2008 and it falls under the genre Hip-Hop/ Rap music. We had a little conflict at first because I wanted to do Because of You by Ne-Yo and Victoria wanted to do Let Me Love You by Mario. However in the end we found Kiss Me Through The Phone in one of our playlist and decided to go with that one. The reason we choose to do this song is because everyone in the group likes the song itself and the genre is easy to work with in terms of what needs to be in the actual music video. The song was also really popular back then by selling over 5.7 million copies Worldwide. Because it is still a popular throwback song, it would be really fun to work it as well.
The original music video has the typical mis en scene that a Hip-Hop/Rap music video would have. The different camera angles, sound, and editing techniques. In a traditional music video for Hip-Hop/Rap, the camera angles are usually low-angled close up shots in order for the main artist of the music video can seem like the most important focal point of the video. Shots that are taken in a Hip-Hop/Rap music video include many two shots, typically with the main artist and a love interest to indicate that they are desirable. It also includes shots like club/party scenes where it gives the artist credibility because it shows how large groups of people are enjoying their song. Depending on the song itself, there can be a range of sounds that are not including the song. There can be sounds of engines revving to depict the luxury the artist or people yelling their name so it shows their importance. The editing, like the sound, also depends on the song and how the director and the artist want the song to be interpreted.
Within the Hip Hop/Rap genre, artists tend to wear a variety of apparel. This may range from designer clothing such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Ferragamo complimented by expensive chains, watches, and other forms of jewelry. This aims to emphasize the wealth that the artist has accumulated and is often a reflection and even a product of the rags to riches story they likely experienced.
In a music video there isn’t a lot of acting involved unless there is a background story to the music video. In the original music video you see spots in the video where the person is looking to be having a conversation on a cell phone. They did this to signify them calling the other person through the phone.
The makeup is also an important part of Hip-Hop videos. Back in 2008, the girls wore vivid makeup that popped on screen. For example bright eye shadow colors, or and big eyeliner. Some videos would showcase the girl in a scene where she would just need normal makeup. The guys however, didn't really a lot of makeup due to the fact that makeup was more feminine.
Props that are heavily featured in many of the videos of the hip-hop genre would include phones, jewelry, clothing, and stacks of money. They serve to captivate the audience’s attention, and portray the characters in the video as wealthy and well off in terms of power and status.
Setting is very important for these types of videos, as they help to demonstrate where the video is taking place. Most often in the Hip-Hop genre, the setting is usually on the street, or a neighborhood, parties, and social gatherings.

The actual editing of the blog

After the computers not working the first day, we were told to just write about what happened that day. The teacher then said that the computers would be fixed the next class period. However, things once again did not go as planned. When we returned to class on October 30th, the computers were still down. To be proactive what the teacher did that day was breakdown how the written test was going to be and have us practice it. Then into the next week pinnacle studios was finally working but only on half of the computers and sadly my group did not get the chance to use a computer that class period. On November 6th we were finally able to use a computer but it was a half day so our class time was shorten. Due to the amount of time we had, we were only able to upload the files onto the computer and import them into pinnacle studios. Today was the day we actually got the editing process done. Especially since today was the last day to work on the commercial.
Victoria was the person who was in charge of editing. What she did was have me  look at all of the footage that pertained to our scene. Then she had me choose which take we wanted to use in the actual commercial. Upon looking at all the takes we took we were able to come to a decision quickly since the scenes were taken well.  After we went through my scenes, she did the same thing with our other team member, Jeffrey. While she was choosing and putting together the different scenes our other team member searched up the music that we were suppose to put in the video. He looked up different versions of the song to see which one would fit into the commercial the best. Then once he found it he had to download it as an mp3 onto the computer. Lastly he emailed the music to Victoria and she was able to put the music with the different scenes.
My job in this editing process was first figuring out how the different options for editing worked. The first thing I did was look it up online how to use a certain technique. I was not able to find what I was looking for because the information was about newer and older models of pinnacle studios. After that I decided to go to the teacher for help. She told me to bring the computer up to her and she would show me. When I went up there she brought me to the editing screen and showed me which tab to click on to get to where I wanted. The technique we were trying to use was the split screen technique. Once we pulled up the different templates on the computer Victoria was handed back the computer where she edited the split screen so we could all be seen drinking the Gatorade. The second thing that I did was check to make sure that we had everything we needed in the commercial. Our teacher handed a checklist for the things that needed to be in the commercial. For example we had to at least use two types of camera angles and one type of movement. When I looked at the checklist we had everything except a pan or tilt. By then we ran out of time so we were not able to put either of those in but our editing process was finally finished and we were happy about that.

Editing the blog

Today we were going to edit our footage and see if anything needed to be re filmed. However, it seemed as if things were not working our favor today. Last class we ran out of time to dump the footage on the school's computers so we had to make some adjustments. We dumped our footage on Victoria's personal laptop, that way we wouldn't be late for our next class. So when we got to class the first thing we had to do was dump the footage from Victoria's laptop onto the school's computer. We then realized that none of us actually brought a flash drive to school so we could make the transfer. Our next plan of action was finding a flash drive. We asked the teacher first but they said they only had SD card readers. After that we asked three other people before we were able to find someone. We put the footage on the flash drive and put all the footage on a file on the computer.
Once we put the footage into a file on the computer, we returned the flash drive to the person. The next problem was actually trying to dump the footage into Pinnacle Studios. The teacher stated that the first 13 computers did not have Pinnacle Studios sand that people would have to move around. Luckily we were one of the people who had the application on the computer so we just moved on to the next step. This is where we ran into problems. When we clicked on the icon, it took a while to load up and then it said "This application is blocked by your administrator". We went to the teacher and she said " I know I have to unblock it from my computer" While we were waiting, we were discussing the different ways to edit. Whether we wanted to do a jump cut and what kind of music we wanted in the background. After about 10 minutes, the teacher came back and said that the computers were not working with Pinnacle Studios.
What this meant was that the schedule that we had set up was behind. We were not able to start our editing process which really sucked. So instead of being down about it we decided to be proactive. We got together as a group and went back to the different editing styles we wanted to do. For the music we came up with putting it in the background but having diegetic sounds in front of the music.
. However as we move along in the commercial we the music will get louder and the bass in the song will become more prominent. Another thing we also came up with is the kind of cuts we wanted to do into the next scene. We wanted to do a jump cut as well as a split screen. These are just a couple of the ideas that we came up with. We are gonna see what else we can do with the editing process once Pinnacle Studios is up. Hopefully we can edit next class.

Filming the Commercial

When we got to class the first thing that we had to do was fill out the forms needed to check out the equipment such as check out a camera and tripod. Once we got the equipment, we had to change into our costumes for each scene. So Victoria put on her glasses as well as her Harvard hoodie, I had to change into my dance uniform and boot, and Jefferey had to change into his tracksuit used for performances.  Our first scene was shot on a softball field which was where Jefferey's scene was shot. Then we moved to the senior patio where Victoria's and I's scene was shot. The difference in location was where on the senior patio that our different scenes were shot. When we finished shooting the different takes, we moved back to the classroom where we had to dump the footage onto the computer.
During the acting filming part of the day, we all had different roles. We mostly split up the responsibilities. For example, there wasn't just one person in charge of moving the equipment, we would all carry a piece of equipment. However, my main job was preparing and shooting for my scene. I had to practice the perform choreography that was gonna be done in my scene, so while Victoria was shooting Jefferey's scene I would watch the equipment and practice. Then it was my turn to shoot my scene. Jefferey was in charge of the camera while I was acting. I had to perform myself messing up my routine, such as dropping my baton and forgetting choreography. I then also had to perform doing great after drinking the Gatorade, catching all of the tosses and performing the routine without hitches. The last thing that I did was put up one of the equipments that we used so I could return it to the teacher.
Even though we were able to get all the shots that we needed, we faced some challenges. On our way to the softball field, we realized that we forgot the Gatorade bottle that we needed to film. Knowing this while my partners went to go set up on the field, I went and got back and got the drinks. Another issue was timing. We realized that we had to be back in the classroom by a certain so we would have the chance to dump the footage so we were moving at a very pace. I then understood the reason why directors have a schedule for what time they are going to film the different scenes. The biggest challenge I would say is making sure to film at the same angles and movements in every scene. so it would take multiple takes to get into the same results. When we got back to class we were off schedule, so we had to rush to dump the footage on the computer. However, there were limited SD card readers so it took more time because we had to wait till another group was done dumping. In the end, we were able to film all of our footage and dump it on to a computer in one day. All that's left to do now is the actual editing of what we did. Hopefully, we won't have to reshoot scenes.

Storyboard Blog

Today, we finally managed to complete the storyboard for a Gatorade commercial, a step that will ultimately make the filming process much easier. Storyboarding was quite the group experience. Coming together and allowing our creative juices to flow from our minds, intertwining with one another and spawning even more ideas, resulted in what we saw as the best path to take for this project. In a nutshell, our commercial will go as follows: The commercial will begin with a full Gatorade bottle displayed on the screen placed on the field of grass and instrumental music will start playing. For our score, we decided to use the song “Hot” by Young Thug as it coincided with our vision for the commercial. Then, it will transition to 3 different scenes, each carrying a dull, dim atmosphere. This works to give the impression that the individuals in the scenes are tired, completely deprived of the energy and unable to carry out the tasks at hand. With this, slow transitions will be used in order to have the effect of the sluggishness that our actors will have. Transitions like slow pans and slow tilts. This develops the idea of a problem, which Gatorade will soon provide a solution. After this, each actor will take sips of Gatorade and this will be shown on a three-way split screen. The colors would change to a more vibrant setting and the music will be at a more upbeat tempo. Then, the same tasks that were attempted before will be attempted again, but performed better, illustrating the ‘liquid power’ of the Gatorade. As typical conventions used in Gatorade commercial, faster transitions, and dynamic shots will be used in order to get the attention of the audience. To end the commercial, an empty Gatorade bottle will be placed on the same field at the same spot.

Planning for Gatorade Commercial

10/10
During class, we continued our discussion from the night before about the props, costumes schedule, location, and the back-up plan to film our commercial. Figuring out the props, costumes, and location for the commercial were the easiest to discuss. Going into the planning, we all had our ideas for the commercial and what we wanted it to look like. We were trying to decide what route we want to take for the commercial, if we wanted it to be different from the ‘traditional’ Gatorade commercials or put our own twist to it. Inevitably, we all decided to steer from the norm and make the commercial school oriented. Since all of us partake in activities for school like percussion, auxiliary, and even studying for a big test, we thought our commercial can have a larger target audience if we made it revolve around school. Our group went ahead and decided the slogan that we wanted. Even though Gatorade has their own slogan, we wanted to change it up and come up with our own. We decided on “Liquid power, Liquid drive, Liquid intensity, Gatorade”.

Props

‘Quints’, drum sticks, and a harness for the percussion scenes

A baton for the auxiliary scenes

Books, writing utensils, and glasses for the studying scenes

Gatorade bottles (different sizes and colors) for almost all scenes

Costumes

A black visor, grey band tracksuit, and marching band dinkles for the percussion scenes.

A blue and white leotard that is long sleeve, tan tights, and white gogo boots for the auxiliary scenes.

A crimson sweatshirt and glasses for the studying scenes.

Schedule

10/7- We researched our product and explained what it takes to make a Gatorade commercial.

10/10- Today, we explained our idea and planned out what the costumes, props, and locations.

10/14- We are going to storyboard, write the script for our commercial, and start to brainstorm creative ideas to how we’re going to film our scenes.

10/21- Our group is going to start filming for our commercial. Go to the locations and figure out how we want to film.\

10/23- Start to edit our scenes, figure out which we are going to keep and have to cut out of the final product. Voice overs and different editing styles.

10/28- Turn in our commercial.

Locations-

For the percussion scenes, we are going to film on the football field.

For the auxiliary scenes, we are going to film on the senior patio.

For the studying scenes, we are going to film on the senior patio at a picnic table .

Back-up plan-

In case of rain, the locations that are filmed outside like the football field and the senior patio, we are going to film in front of the large auditorium under the pavilion for the percussion scene and the auxiliary scene. For the studying scene we would have to move it to somewhere under a cover.

In case of an absence, we would lengthen the time of the scenes to where it can make up for the absence of a group member.

In case of the locations being used by other students, we would move to a location that not many people would think of. Possibly a corner of a building or another field like the softball field.

Codes and Conventions

The product we chose to do a commercial for is Gatorade. We chose Gatorade because we all personally like Gatorade better than Powerade, found it to be more accommodating for the location available for us to film at, and it seemed to be a more fun option to film for. We also chose Gatorade because unlike the other options available to us, we all drink Gatorade rather than Powerade. As members of extracurricular activities such as band, swim team, and auxiliary, we all have our experience with how Gatorade truly works and how it can help us go on to do these activities after a seven-hour school day.

When one hears the word ‘Gatorade’ electrolytes typically come to mind. Gatorade has a variety of commercials revolving around how the electrolytes help replenish your thirst and helps you continue on with your task. Since it is an energy drink, these commercials are usually geared towards athletes, but it can target a broader audience because of the dialogue the commercial uses. Within these commercials, they usually have some fast dialogue happening where they’re talking positively about the drink and how it makes one perform better. This can be geared to athletes, academics, and all those that fall in between. These commercials can also include celebrities like Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams, and Misty May-Treanor, all of different races, religions, and ethnicities. Having these different celebrities help with targeting the majority of the audience.

During a Gatorade commercial, they typically use bright colors to try and grab the audience's attention. That’s why you will see a scene of people being outside because outside is associated with exercise and movement. They also use editing styles like ‘action match’, ‘burnouts’, and ‘reaction shots. They do this to carry out the ‘fast pace’ activities related to Gatorade like exercise. Often times there are a lot of voice-overs and dialogue to help move the flow of the commercial as well as bring in another scene.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class we went over filming with cameras as well as the basics of editing. The first thing we discussed was the process to get a equipment needed and the how to set up and use the equipment. When someone would like to check out any equipment from the class they must fill out an agreement form, then when they want to return it they must put the form in the return bin. Each time that a person checks out a camera, they have to fill out an agreement form.  In terms of actually using the camera there are multiple things that must be done to use it. First the person has to flip open the screen that shows the video out to turn the camera on. Make sure that the camera is charged (if the person does not see the screen turn on then the camera is dead). To charge the camera, find the lightening cable provided, then find the U-shaped plug on the camera, and plug the cable into the plug. To start recording, press the red button to start and press it again to pause. Every time the paused button is hit, it is called a take and every time the scene is finished a shot was taken. To turn off the camera just close the screen.
Another thing that I learned in class was how to dump the footage taken on the camera and move it to a computer. The program that we will be working with is Pinnacle Studios. So the first step is to  stick the SD card into the SD card reader. Then open Pinnacle Studios on the computer. The next step would be to put the SD card reader in to the USB in the computer. Once that is completed, make a folder on the computer to save your work on to and title it whatever you are working on. Move the footage on the SD card to the folder on the computer, it should be in the DCIM folder within the your folder you created. Once the footage has been stored in the computer you can take out the SD card and return it to the teacher.
The final thing that we went over in class was importing and exporting footage on Pinnacle Studios as well as learning the basics of editing. To import footage in the studio, click on the import button at the top right corner of the screen. Then press start import. You will see the raw footage pop up and the screen and you can begin to edit your footage. To edit raw footage drag the different clips that you want to edit and to the bottom of the screen into the AV track 2 . To add titles to footage drag the wording and put in into AV track 1. To cut a scene move a red triangle over the scene you want to cut, press the razor icon, then press delete. There are also other effects that can be used such as different types of transitions. To save the footage that has been edited hit export, pace it in the format MP4 and then press start export.

Introduction

Welcome to my blog
This is your introduction to one of the funniest people you will meet in your lifetime. I was born in the Bronx, New York on September 20th, 2002. However, my parents lived in Jamaica so after six months I moved to Jamaica to live with my mom and my two sisters. I attended a private elementary school down there and in 3rd grade my mom decided it was time to make the move to the United States permanently. I went to Welleby Elementary while my sisters attended Piper High School.
The transition was hard,at first having to make new friends, adjusting to the different environment, as well taking my first standardized tests. After my 4th grade year I really started to get the hang of things, I made new friends, started joining clubs and getting to know my community a lot better. During my last year in elementary school I became involved with the student council as well as becoming a safety patrol.

I believe my years at Westpine Middle School were my best years.I was always doing my work on time, reading book in the library and never wanting to share my work. As I progressed into 7th grade I made a big transition. I was still completing my homework assignments and reading books but I started to care more about my appearance. In 8th grade my social skills definitely improved. I joined a lot of clubs like the math club, and National Juniors Honors Society. Because of my academics I was able to get into a special program where I could take high school classes in 8th grade. So by the time I graduated I had five high school credits.

While in 8th grade I decided that I wanted to become a lawyer so I applied for the Pre- Law magnet program in Fort Lauderdale High School. Went I got in I was really ecstatic, but I did not know the amount of work that was in store of me. I enjoyed 9th grade and 10th grade but I would say that 10th grade was my hardest year academically, emotionally and physically. My grades had started to drop and I lost a lot of weight. But 11th grade year it got better. my grades gradually went back up and to help take my mind off of things I joined my high school band. I am currently in 12th grade and the college process is taking a toll but it has also been my funniest year yet, I have made a group of friends, and have gone out and had fun so many times. Overall I have had my ups and downs but I finally have settled and I am ready for the future ahead of me
